The GOP made this mess and yet ardent GOPers think this mess is better than any Democrat in office. Since the rise of the Tea Party, a GOP purge of principles has been ongoing. So has the electoral cheating; as of the exit of Dubya, the GOP have operated on the premise that the ONLY way they can win is to cheat and gerrymander. They already knew their goose was cooked but their followers are followers of faith, misplaced as that faith may be. And now Jeff Sessions claims The Bible (some flavor of King James Version is presumed) justifies cruelty committed by government because Romans 13 proclaims that God ordained governments for his own purposes, thus attributing his own purposes to be identical to that of God's...and basically admitting that the American Revolution was an act against God because it was a rebellion against a king put in place by God and whom thereby must be obeyed no matter what.
The excuse I keep hearing was "well, he was an evil King" or "he was a bad King", and so I submit that the same excuse can be applied to the government that Sessions is promoting.

Oklahoma votes!
Although my last monarch took flight some time ago, I'm still up to my eyeballs in monarch activities prepping for next year AND participating in seed swaps at this time...which takes me right up to election day, just about. As far as the POTUS race goes, my regulars know already my position on where big business stands, and it ain't with Trump.
But I think this commentary is worth adding for those who blindly follow like sheep the lead of the evangelical faction supporting Trump: in terms of morality, they're supporting a guy who revels in and brags about his repeated commission of several of the Seven Deadly Sins, and the quick fix for that is the claim that he's asked for, and been granted, forgiveness...belied by his Twitter storms, so of late, his campaign management pulled his access to his own Twitter account...which amounts to evangelicals attempting to Bear False Witness out of one side of their mouths and glorifying the Ten Commandments on the other. I'm looking at you, Governor Mary Fallin and all those in support of repealing the religion money clause of the OK Constitution.
There are a couple of State Questions I feel imperative to address immediately, so I'll comment on those and post this quickly with the caveat that I'll edit this later to add commentary on other issues.
In the name of budgetary concerns as well as justice, I come out in favor of the justice system reform State Question as both concerns will be properly addressed by its passage.
I don't have that same view about the teacher's pay State Question, however, because of the weasel words incorporated in the ads aired by its proponents. They proclaim that the money won't go to administration, that it'll go into some kind of lock box, but when it comes to stating that ALL the money goes to teacher's pay, they back out of that and make the claim that it'll go to the classroom, not the teachers....so...I'm with the opponents on this one, and cite the corruption of the Enid Public Schools people as prime example of a swamp that definitely needs draining. The state legislators in charge of establishing teacher pay should find their balls and pass a better pay rate for teachers and until they do, they remain craven cowards.
Lastly (for now) but definitely not the leastly, is the Constitutional Right to Farm State Question. There are very valid points on both sides and I was on the fence for a long time on that one. After hearing all the arguments, and remembering the huge spate of family farm foreclosures in the 1980s under the Reagan administration, a situation that caused Willie Nelson to create his Farm Aid event and movement, the argument that "Oklahomans already have a right to farm" falls flat on its face. The right to farm State Question is decades too late for the 1980s, but in my view, in view of what happened in the 1980s, I hereby state that ALL STATES should have a clause that gives a constitution guarantee of a Right to Farm...so...I stand strongly in favor of State Question 777.
Further, I endorse Roland Pederson. We need more farmers and ranchers in state government, not fewer.
More to come later as time permits.

How stupid is spelled: T-E-X-A-S--and hello again, Auntie Beeb...
Dateline Garland TX--The state of Texas steps forward to be the first to donate to ISIS in the form of ISIS's first claim of an attack on American soil.
Stupid just doesn't get st00pider than that.
===================================================
Speaking of st00pid, there's the BBC who apparently convinced YouTube that it has a copyright on science. Of course I appealed again. Come on, Auntie--take me to court and you'll lose. Science isn't copyrightable, it can only be patented provided that the patent is on a design, a process, or a device. Show us your patents. At best, you could claim a trademark infringement with the use of the acronym TARDIS, but guess what--that wasn't used in the video you dispute. Attempting to claim a copyright over the science of transdimensional engineering is an attempt to claim ownership of a public domain technology that has been in the public domain for over a thousand years.
You can't own public domain technology, and you can't copyright technology either--that, too, comes under patent law. Your fiction is based on science and claiming ownership of the science your fiction is based on is like claiming that everyone who uses the phrase "I am very clever" is a copyright infringement because those words are an exact copy of a part of your script...what follows with that line of reasoning is your claiming ownership of the English language because your scripts are written in English.
By all means, take me to court, sweetie--you'll lose. Oh right--you claim copyright over "hello sweetie" too, betcha. Go ahead--make my day.
Friday UPDATE, UK Election Edition: Oh my dear dear giddy Auntie Beeb--the Tories have to go through the Scots to give you money for your frivolous escapades now, don't they. See you in court, love.
Saturday UPDATE, UK Edition: I have just been cleared by GoFundMe to set up a defense fund to fight this. I'm not done setting it up yet, though, so to all the people who are weary of YouTube's copyright trolls, this cause is just your cup of tea. When it's fully set up, I'll post a link here. Watch this space.
Here we go: Help tell the BBC it's not above the law! Go Fund Me
Oh, come on Auntie Beeb, by all means let's give it a go. It'll be fun and you'll launch me straight up into global notoriety. XD What on the bloomin' Earth could possibly go wrong?
Stupid just doesn't get st00pider than that.

I luvz ya, Bill Maher & Sam Harris, but y'all are wrong--& 3 updates
Make no mistake, I'm an atheist who curries no favor for any branch of the ill-begotten Abrahamic religions, and who thinks that all religions are the motherlode of bad ideas, but you guys are all wrong about Islam because you all base your conclusions on the rot sold by non-Islamic religions and you bought it, suckers. With the crap that you bought into, Bill and Sam, you're no different than Christians.
Really.
Islamophobia is the result of believing the rot that the other two Abrahamic branches preach about it.Sure, it's true that ISIS isn't helping in that regard, but it's also true that ISIS isn't Islamic and anybody who says that it is doesn't know squat about Islam either. Nice of you guys to opine about something you guys clearly don't know anything about outside of propaganda, but quite frankly, you're also believing the crap that ISIS is selling you, too, and that makes you a believer in ISIS as well as what makes you Christian.
Suckers.
Actual Muslims know better than you guys for a change. They know if the Allah they believe in really willed there to be a Califate Empire, we'd still have the first one. We don't, do we. As far as actual Muslims are concerned, there is no Califate Empire because it's God's will, and those attempting to establish one are not insha'allah.
==============================
Oh dear--I just heard Chris Hayes make sense and then go off the rails. He said he was in Afflek's corner but then said that one should listen to a member of "the faith" as if it was monolithic. Christianity isn't monolithic either, despite what I may have inferred when I said that Christianity sells one story about Islam (all flavors of Christianity do and it dates back to when Christianity was nearly all Orthodox). Sorry, Chris, but a monolithic Islam is not true.
==============================
What's wrong with this picture is not that the caption is written in Arabic, nor that the apparent Muslim thinks that this is how a proper woman (hen) is expected to serve her man (rooster) because that's how much she loves him. What's wrong with this picture is that for centuries, this was what western men believed as a rule, and what abusive western men still believe.
There are Muslims that don't believe this way and there are Christians who do, and NO woman should offer such a thing as this as a token of love...and NO man should expect it, either. Ever. Bill Maher, it was YOU who complained about "the wussification of America". It's the non-wuss males that are this kind of problem in every religion, and even among atheist men like yourself. FAIL
=============================================
UPDATE, Reza Aslan/Sam Harris Edition: Boy, that Real Time story keeps generating a lot of high-level-pundit discussion, and I suppose that's a good thing, but it remains a topic on which purely dispassionate analysis is a rare to find, and only when you get lucky, with Reza Aslan weighing in now. As I said before, Aslan is a Sufi apologist. while the remainder, regardless of faith of persuasion, simply believe stuff that other religions preach about Islam without going through the trouble of establishing factual facts first. Aslan makes the very accurate point that both sides lack sophistication.
The westerners invariably regard the Quran like it was a Bible even in its translation into English when it is not and never was. Westerners regard the Sunni-Shiite divide as "sectarian" when it isn't, and regard sharia law as uniformly more strict throughout "the Muslim world" when it varies from tribe to tribe, nevermind the variations that occur between Sunnis and Shiites, and all westerners of all western faiths invariably believe the rot about how the 7th century saw Islam spread by the sword when that's not true either.
On The Last Word, Sam Harris kept referring to singular beliefs but according to him, believed in by "the Muslim world" when that's not true. Sophistication is a prerequisite for any meaningful, factual discussion of Islam in the entire range of its varying spectrum while recognizing that the Quran is just a pillar of a wide range of Islamic beliefs that find more foundation among the Hadiths and, in the case of Sunnis, the Sunnah, and find that these things are merely foundations supported by the pillars, and upon that foundation rests the myriad of disparate sharia laws dependent on the myriad of different tribes that profess to be Muslim.
To paint Islam with a single tone is wrong; to paint Islam with only two tones is just as wrong, too. In Aslan's case, to minimize the fact that the Sunni-Shiite divide is something to be glossed over and sugar coated is just as wrong too.
Fast-forward to Sunday, and a Fareed Zacharia GPS UPDATE: Zacharia prefaced his program by weighing in on the Maher spat and proclaimed that Maher was some sort of legit intellectual pundit, forgetting entirely that he's a comedian. FAIL
Fareed made only one accurate comment, and that is that the matter is complex. More on this later.
A very late Tuesday UPDATE:
Lots of stuff going on this Tuesday, from City study session, Commission meeting, and the Tops In Blue concert. Prior to that, though, was the antique small engine exposition near the fairgrounds, too. I tried to upload a small engine primer video that I made with some of the footage from that last event, and Blogger decided it didn't like that, so we're back to the same ole video problems Google pushed on Blogger that was experienced earlier; error message claims that there's a 100MB limit now. I'm going to have to make an iPhone version before Blogger will take it---AGAIN. Google, get yer frikkin act together already. This is bollocks.
Really.

Ah. Here we go. iPhone size works. Eff U, Google & Blogger! FAIL!!
(Later in the day I tried to view the vid full screen for desktop and the captions are very very very muddled. But it's all that Blogger permits at this time. Meh and a half)

Reza Aslan, Sufi Apologist--Malala Day update
I would have slipped this in with the Sunday UPDATE tacked on at the end of the previous blog post, but it's important enough to put in a separate post.
I was watching Book TV's In Depth featuring Reza Aslan and noticed some interesting omissions and mischaracterizations he committed. He was then asked if he was Shiya and he said that he avoided sectarian labels, then proceeded to emphasize the divine. Sorry, Reza, but that's the definition of a Sufi. You may dislike the label, but you're a Sufi, and Sufis offer apologetics instead of history of record regarding Islamic history--and you proved to be no different in that interview.
Aslan stated that Mohammed started out being of reviled status as an orphan belonging to a subcatagory tribe of a larger powerful tribe, while omitting that a prominent member of that prominent tribe adopted him and for a while Mohammed was the adopted brother of Ali, the fourth Calif and founder of the Shiites. Aslan failed to mention the status of Mohammed's first wife as a powerful merchant lady of that same powerful tribe, and failed to mentioned the father of Mohammed's second wife, a prominent general of that same powerful tribe--which Aslan finally, at long last, named in the course of the interview: the Koreish.
Regarding a question about Persian Zoroasterism, Aslan said that there were Zoroasterists today but failed to say that they're the Parsees. FAIL
I've said before in previous posts about Islamic history that Sufis are apologists; behold Book TV's poster boy of that fact: Reza Aslan.
But fact still remains that Sufis are better than either Sunnis or Shiites in terms of providing more accurate Islamic history and so I'll mention Aslan's book, "No god but God", as a fair enough background on Islam compared to others, although comparing that to others still isn't saying much. Read with several grains of salt.
Speaking of stupid religious strife, here's a cheery Tuesday UPDATE for ya: today is World Kiss Day. And a cheery image to go with it.
Here's the link
And tomorrow, Wednesday July 9, is Malala Day. Peace on Earth isn't just for Christmas anymore.
Best damn video found on Facebook today, on Malala Day:
Best video on the whole planet, IMHO. Even in the midst of all the proliferating violent conflicts, it's things like this that will still convince a time traveler that this is the best damn planet in the universe. Whether you stand with Malala or stand with your next door neighbor, what's important is taking that stand in the first place.

Elliot Roger and Adam, a Facebook meme & a July update
I mean the Adam with no last name Adam. They're both men who made choices and claimed that a woman made 'em do what they did. Face it, guys--Christianity and its Abrahamic brethren religions themselves are misogynistic, and if you're a guy who was brought up to believe that that's how God ordered nature and nature's laws--women should always be barefoot and pregnant-- you'll regard God's gift of dominion to be an entitlement program. Same kinda guy that thinks that men are from Mars and women are from Venus and neither are members of the same species. Men and women are different, but not THAT different. If they were that different, they couldn't breed.
The excuse used in re: a 13 year old
Geeeeeez--some people. But there's all kinds of people out there--hey Elliot, if you hadn't killed yourself, you'd be in jail getting hit on by ladies who think jailbirds are sexy. Dude, you'd even get a cell mate that would hit on you. If loveless sex is your thing, you could have gone to a place where you could have gotten it in abundance, and you missed the boat on that too, loser.
The Elliot Roger Massacre
July UPDATE: ...in the form of "The Beyonce Voter" remark, about how women are supposed to be dependent. Doesn't matter if on government or husbands, but dependent either way.
Wise ladies know that's the mark of a male control freak, and know enough to steer clear of such a man, giving him wide berth. Unless the lady seeks to be a trophy wife, that is. There are such people and Phyllis Schlaffley is one of 'em.
Back in the 60s when "women's lib" was the new catch phrase, there were men who regarded that as men's liberation, too--the more independent a woman was, the less of a drag she was supposed to be on a household. Men in Muslim countries already find out on a regular basis that the more dependent a woman is forced to be on a man, the more the man gets used as a utility. Hell, it's such men that regard women as a utility and karma's a bitch.

A UK debate about Islam resurfaces on Facebook
...and the person who posted the video didn't give the context, nor reveal that this debate took place in July, 2013....(continued below the notes)...
===================================================
Shout out to The Nerdist. I am honored by your visit! ^_^
====================================================
Note about another death in the virtual family: +George Strayline had to say his final good-byes to his beloved dog, Chief. This blog continues in mourning.
====================================================
But the person who posted it tagged me, and a discussion ensued just yesterday. Earlier I attempted to copy the HTML code and paste it into this blog, but got 'way too much extraneous Facebook stuff including my entire Profile page, so I'm going to have to do this by hand and by individual screenshots instead.
I found the equivalent video on YouTube, and here it is, although it doesn't have the Arabic captioning that the vid on Facebook had...
What I did on Facebook is do a point-counterpoint response, as follows...
Now, please keep in mind that each Comment I posted corresponds with a point made by the speaker in the video, and it is essential that you view the video first before proceeding.
....and finally....
Prior to this, about a fortnight ago, one of Tipa's friends in Morocco engaged me in a similar debate via the private messaging system on Facebook, which turned out to be another case of a Sunni evangelism toward me for the second time this year. I may be Muslim-friendly but that is extended to not just those who believe, as this person stated, that "Ayisha is the mother of all Muslims". All SUNNI Muslims, you mean--and word to the wise among any other Sunni evangelists: I'm too smart for that shit. Deal with it.
Edited to add the list of the 5 major schools of Sunni religious scholarship: Wahabi, of course; and there's Hanafi, Shafi, Malaki, and Hanbali.
Mini UPDATE on blog stats: I noticed this afternoon that there have been single hits on each of my old postings involving time travel the way THIS Clara (yours truly) does it, and teaches it. That's either one of my TARDIS navigation students, or it's TARDIS Wiki, probably investigating my claim that I'm a TARDIS navigation instructor. If it's you, Wiki, then you can see clearly a sample of classwork and assignments in the Introductory level, with a few minor instructions of intermediate level. I wasn't lying! The old timers on Tom Baker's forum can attest to the fact that, while I was there (and before I deleted my content), I was in fact the original Impossible Person Clara that predates Oswald by a good number of years before she was a twinkle in Moffat's eye. The decade-long trail of frustrated historians I have under my belt is very very real, and mentioned in various entries on this blog. Everything I've said on Wiki is true. Shout out to The Nerdist. I am honored by your visit! ^_^

Note about another death in the virtual family: +George Strayline had to say his final good-byes to his beloved dog, Chief. This blog continues in mourning.

What I did on Facebook is do a point-counterpoint response, as follows...

....and finally....
| Even just my Russian buddy, gri, can attest to the fact that I've had this motto--like, FOREVER. I'll bet he even knows who I'm quoting here--Mikail Bakunin. |
